Edpuzzle is a free, assessment - centred online tool that allows teachers to create interactive online tasks by embedding multiple-choice or open-ended questions, notes or audio notes on a video. The interactive video lessons can be made with videos from a number of websites such as YouTube, National Geographic, TED, Veritasium, Numberphile and Vimeo.
We all know that assessment is time-consuming but it is also the vital part of the learning cycle that we cannot ignore. At the same time, it is also important for us to keep our students engaged in learning at a time of pandemic like this. We make a variety of lessons to keep our students engaged without knowing whether or not they understand what we teach.
As someone who is predominantly using Youtube videos for my online lessons, I find Edpuzzle to be rather useful to keep my students' learning at pace. I use my own videos or any other videos related to my lessons to create assignments and quizzes for them.
For most of my Edpuzzle lessons, I use multiple-choice questions so that I can check their answers quickly and spend time giving feedback. At times, I also give them open-ended questions to know what they think.
Assigned work can be monitor in Edpuzzle |
It is easy to use Edpuzzle as students can see their progress and I can keep track of their progress too. Besides, scores for all the tasks given are stored in the grade book for me to check at any time. The grade book stores all the scores from the 1st lesson until the very recent lesson for a respective class registered in Edpuzzle.
Grade Book to Store Students' Scores |
Edpuzzle is free and if you have a Google Classroom account, you can just import the names of your students to Edpuzzle via google classroom link on Edpuzzle. Besides, students scores are also recorded in Google classroom grade book if it is linked to your Google Classroom account.
With Edpuzzle, students can work at their own pace. It is ok if they miss the online classes due to unforeseen circumstances. Preparing assignments like this would help them to keep themselves updated on the lesson learnt as well as to do revision.
While Edpuzzle can be an effective tool for online learning, as teachers we have to remember that the lessons should be relevant and should not be done for the sake of using the tool. We have to remember that our assessment must be effective and efficient.
Below is a video I created on Youtube, where I shared ways to create a quiz on Edpuzzle. Happy watching, Happy teaching and stay safe!
